I've been 'trying' to train for a kayaking marathon from Devizes to Westminster with one of my clients.
But with work, clashing schedules, baby duties and other reasons out of our control? It's meant that we're having to put it off until next year....
And - I 'll be honest - I felt pretty down about it. Like I'd lost focus. Like I failed. I almost felt like I had 'no reason to eat right, exercise today'...
This was me the other day.
I took a moment to look back at far we've actually come in the past few months.
I mean, we couldn't even sit in a boat for more than 1 minute without falling in.
And now we've learnt that we you're doing long distances...you need someone supporting you with a warm change of clothes for when you fall into the cold, dirty, canal...and have another 15 miles to go....
After doing this?
I actually felt so much better.
Just from looking back and reminding myself just how well I have done.
It's exactly why I get the ladies to look back at progress, be it with the way they look, fitness, clothes sizes, health markers, waist measurements or even - sometimes - the dreaded scales.
Because you sometimes surprise yourself and give yourself the confidence to keep going and continue.
Just like one of our ladies using my Shift Personal Training and Nutrition System did just last week by posting these progress photos.
^^^ They even surprised me
But - you see - without doing this. It's too easy to get stuck in the future. Where everything you want looks so far away.
My advice to you?
Take the smallest step, no matter what it is..
To making 2018 the year you ditch the diets and build a healthy way of eating that fits your lifestyle and leaves you feeling more confident in your favourite clothes
and remind yourself every day at what you did well that day (because it's only normal for your brain to focus on the ONE thing that you did wrong...)

What have you got to lose?
PS. I get that this weight loss stuff can be hard, especially when friends and family don't notice. But just know that they recently found that ladies would have to lose around a stone for them to notice...
It's why a surrounding yourself with like-minded people trying to be the best versions of themselves has been shown to be the best way to lose fat and keep it off. Because it keeps you accountable, gives you the support you need and - most importantly - helps you stay motivated so you can making this the last 'diet' you ever have to do...
