I get it...this 'toning up' game is CONFUSING...
You're fed up of giving up your favourite foods (including the chocolate and the wine)
^^^ I tried that too
Annoyed by the unrealistic results they show you Facebook and Instagram
The greedy supplement companies...
all of which just don't understand that YOU have a busy life, enjoy eating out, barely get time to SLEEP, and don't want to spend hours in a sweaty gym....
And what's worse is all the mags telling you that all you have to do is eat 6 times a day, detox your body, NEVER eat too close to bedtime, cut out carbs..and - more recently - eat as much saturated fat as you like to lose weight, tone up and fit back into your favourite clothes without feeling hungry ever again...
They call it the ketogenic diet. Have you heard of it? It's where you eat the majority of your foods from FAT. It became pretty popular when Trudy Deakin came out and said she was eating 82% FAT....because it was just sugar fuelling obesity.
Now, before I go on and give you the 101 on saturated fat, cholesterol, heart disease risk and weight loss (more on the ketogenic diet another day), I want to you to know that I've tried and USED all of these strategies. And - in fact - some of these strategies WILL work at a particular time for a particular person...and it's why it all depends where you are right NOW
You've always been told to cut out saturated fat, right? 'It will give you heart disease'...'it will raise your cholesterol'...
And to you...this will mean fewer eggs, less red meat, saying goodbye to your beloved cheese, and - of course - ditching the butter.
But what if I told you that the evidence was actually pretty weak for this all of this?
What if these beliefs weren't actually based on much evidence at all?
I mean, they've even showed that eating full fat dairy products like cheese and yoghurt (which are high in saturated fat) has no negative effects on your cholesterol and may actually decrease your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
BUT...they did find that the saturated fat in butter INCREASED cholesterol levels.
What does all mean?
Well, all of this advice about cutting out saturated fat is scratching the surface.
Because it's forgetting that when you eat, you eat FOOD. You eat meals, right? And it's why - in my humble opinion - we've got it so wrong.
Let's say you started to cut out saturated fat. So, you ditched the eggs, cheese, red meat...and if you REALLY want to get so carried away with ONE thing...you cut out salmon (as it does actually contain a little bit of saturated fat)
Well, you're also missing out on calcium which is important for your bones, vitamin B for energy, iron for your blood, omega 3 fats for joints and concentration, and - of course - protein needed to help you recover, keep you full up and help tone you up!
It's why what they preach to you is a 'guideline' ONLY. I mean, we know that some populations can handle saturated fats better than others in terms of your risk of heart disease. Others? Their risk of heart disease sky rockets.
But one thing it does often come down to is...your body fat, overall food intake and what's sustainable for YOU.
It's all well and good eating an 82% fat diet...
But what happens when you want to eat out? Have some rice with your curry? Have your roasties on a Sunday? What happens when you get bored of eating the same foods? Can you see yourself sticking to this? Keeping the weight off long-term so you can ditch the baggy clothes for good?
Or will you fall into the trap of believing your thoughts telling you that you've failed because you've eaten 'carbs late at night'?
It's why I make things super simple for you using a my step by step Tone Up system that WORKS...
Doesn't 'discriminate' against so-called 'bad foods' and helps you tone up and fit back into your favourite clothes whilst having more FUN doing it...
And it just so happens that I'm holding a FREE online training event at 8pm on Thursday 26th October:
Where I'll be revealing:
