The facts about bananas that will make you feel better

“I was so confused, I’ve just stopped eating bananas”

^^^ One lady told me recently when I was delivering a diabetes education session for an NHS programme I work on

Why the confusion?

Glad you asked 🙂

1) She’d been told she needed to lose weight…but also that bananas were ‘full of sugar’

2) She’d heard ‘sugar makes you fat’

3) But also heard that green bananas help you lose weight

4) However, she does not like green bananas

5) But also heard that bananas (yellow or green) are a “free” food on Slimming World…

6) Unless they are cooked…which makes them a ‘syn’…

^^^ Yep, even I’m confused right now…

So, I’m here to tell you the facts about bananas and WEIGHT LOSS….

^^^ so just to clarify, I’m not referring to bananas and diabetes

1) Both green and yellow bananas contain the SAME number of calories (about 105 for a medium sized banana 😉

Which means swapping a yellow banana for a green banana will NOT directly help you lose weight.

They’re both also rich in potassium, Vitamin C and a good source of fibre….

2) So, what are the differences between green and yellow bananas?

Taste: Green bananas are less sweet

Texture: Green bananas are firmer…yellow bananas could be better for weaning (which I’m super excited about 😉

Type of carb: Green bananas are higher in starches. As bananas ripen and become more yellow, the starches breakdown into sugar

You’re probably thinking that if the starch has turned into sugar in yellow bananas…

That green bananas must be better?

And you COULD be right…

Green bananas are higher in starches that take longer to breakdown.

This COULD keep you more full up and stop you snacking…

But here’s the thing…

do you even like green bananas?

Could it be that you just eat less because you don’t like green bananas?

The bottom line:

Whether you eat a yellow banana or a green banana…

you CAN lose fat, ditch the love handles and fit back into your favourite clothes….

^^^ Just as long as you stay within your overall food intake

Which goes for pretty much ANY food (even coconut Lindt chocolate)

If you’d prefer to do this by eating green bananas….GO BANANAS

Just one thing on that though…

If you struggle with bloating and gas (my hands just gone up)

Green bananas MAY be an issue (as they’re harder to breakdown)

WOW….

That’s a lot for a Monday morning…

So I’m off to make some banana pancakes

and I know what you’re thinking…

“What about bananas being a ‘syn’ when you cook it?

Well, I like to keep things simple

Because providing your overall diet is dialled in

you can eat whatever you want (yes, even coconut Lindt chocolate….if you haven’t tried it yet…wow!)

Without having to worry about whether  you can eat this or eat that

Which will save you a bucket load of time and stress

And I’ll be showing you the exact protocol I use with members on our Fat Loss Mastery Programme at my FREE seminar on Tuesday 9th May at Marlborough Golf Club
