Leaky Gut?

“They said they think I have “leaky gut”… What should I do if I have a leaky gut?

They said I should increase my fibre, reduce processed foods.

What’s your advice on this?”

^^ someone said to me who has just joined our 28 Day Kickstart (reply with ‘Kickstart’ for more info)

Now, “they”, not sure who they are, but ‘leaky gut’ isn’t a medically recognised term, it’s an umbrella term for anything regarding gas, bloating, flatulence, undigested foods, IBS, you name it.

People use it for anything. So it is used as a bit of a scapegoat sometimes.

Now, this advice given generally to people wanting to eat more healthily is good, like higher fibre, more whole foods, less processed food.

However, in this case, it might actually be the opposite, not totally the opposite, but high fibre foods, beans, legumes, brown rice, all these foods are actually highly fermentable, so they need to be fermented.

These foods can bypass the small intestine and they need to be fermented. The by-product is gas, flatulence etc.

So this could actually make it worse. So just be aware of that. And that’s why you might want to actually lower the fermentation potential.

So think about, instead of whole grains, beans, legumes, slightly lower those portions

And think protein, fats, they’re going to be less fermentable. And maybe keep a food diary to see how you respond and see if you can find a bit of a trend to what your symptoms are.

I delve into all of this in more detail in my free seminar:

“How to improve your gut health and ditch the bloating”
