I couldn’t get out of bed…

I couldn’t get out of bed..

I think I must have winced for what felt like hours..

As I went to turn my 5am alarm off ..

My back was stiff and in agony..

Why?

Well, the day before I did what I do A LOT with my kids.

It’s uniquely named: the spinnerooney…

2 of my kids (6 and 8 years old) go on each arm / shoulder and spin them around in the swimming pool until one falls off. The one that stays on the longest wins.

Now, they are getting heavier…

I must have done this for about 3 or 4 years now.

But as I was spinning one of them grabbed on to me awkwardly and I felt a little twinge in my back.

Nothing too crazy at the time..

Until I went to bed and woke up, of course.

With a twinge / slightly pulled muscle.

I knew I had to change my morning routine.

Instead of the usual workout, I went for a epsom salt bath, where I did some work on my phone like writing this haha

Followed by a different workout than planned. It was controlled bicep curls, time under tension, nice and light.

In other words, I still got something done.

Why am I sharing this?

Well, from personal training for 17 years, working in the NHS, and public health..

I see a common theme between those who get results and those who don’t..

Those who lose weight and keep it off?

And those who don’t..

Which is that they focus on what they CAN do and think ‘all or something’ rather than ‘ all or nothing’

^ read that again 

Caring for poorly parents? They will do what they can, be it a 1 minute workout or a 10 minute workout or a walk…

Work gone crazy? Again, they focus on doing something. It doesn’t mean they have to eat rubbish..

Social events galore? They control the meals they can 

Grandkids/ kids duty taking over? They focus on what they CAN do…

They have an injury?  They do what they can (like I did)

As that is the key part

Focussing on what you CAN do.

Rather than what you can’t do…
