I got asked this the other day:
“Will intermittent fasting break my metabolism?”
“Is intermittent fasting good for losing weight?”
Now, I’ll be honest — it’s trendy, and seeing the media hype it up like it’s some secret hack does make me want to say ‘it doesn’t work’…
BUT — it’s actually not a fad.
It’s just one tool in the toolbox.
I even did it back when I was doing my Nutrition Postgrad at Oxford Brookes University. I’d leave the house at 5am, head to Oxford, be in labs (no eating there), and my first meal would be at 2pm on the bus home, before personal training until around 9/ 10 pm and then I would have a massive meal then…
It fit my lifestyle.
It helped me drop body fat (in fact, this is how you came second in the GB Natural Bodybuilding finals)
I still got to enjoy dinner with Mrs Fruci.
So yes — intermittent fasting CAN work.
“But will fasting everyday break my metabolism?”
No…
There is no evidence of that and the research shows that whether you fast every day or just control calories with portion each day, if the calories you eat are the same? They both work ..
With fasting, you might eat fewer meals.
Which means fewer calories.
Which means… weight loss (if you’re in a calorie deficit).
Simple.
For some people, it even helps with managing hunger or blood sugar levels.
BUT — for others?
It turns into a game of restriction > binge > guilt > start again Monday…
So here’s the deal:
– If skipping breakfast works for you, great.
– If you love your breakfast, also great — just control portions.
– The tactic only works if it fits your lifestyle.
No need to force it..
