A lot of people have said holidays, days out and meals out made it harder to stay in a routine.
I get that.
But now is a good time to get back into a few habits that help, because social events are not going anywhere.
Before we know it, autumn is here, the nights are darker and somebody mentions the C word…
Christmas
When I was heading to a wedding recently, I thought about what I was actually in control of.
I was not in control of every bit of food that would be served later.
But I was in control of:
What I had for breakfast.
Whether I did a workout.
Whether I went for a walk.
What I drank.
And how much I chose to have.
For me, a good protein breakfast and a workout gave me a bit more flexibility later.
Not because it cancelled the wedding food out.
Sadly, a few squats do not make sticky toffee pudding calorie-free
Delicious though. I hate that gluten-free cake is getting so much nicer
But it meant I had done something positive, was less likely to arrive ravenous and could make the choice I actually wanted to make.
Which social events do you really want to enjoy?
Which ones are not that important?
Do you want to go all out, enjoy things moderately, or make a different choice this time?
There is no single right answer.
The important bit is that it is your decision.
Are you genuinely missing out?
Or are you simply aligning your actions with what you want most?
Are you choosing for you, or to please the person asking you to have another drink?
This is not about being “on it” or “off it”.
It is about having a few tactics so one meal out does not turn into writing off the week.
Control what you can.
Have some protein earlier in the day.
Get some movement in.
Then enjoy the decision you have made.
The key word being “you”.
What’s your biggest obstacle when it comes to eating out or social events?
