So after my knee surgery I had to give myself blood-thinning injections. A pretty standard thing after surgery.

Now normally, if there’s an injection involved, someone else does it and I look away.

That’s always been my approach.

Divert the pain, pinch myself, don’t think about it too much.

This time, I had to do it myself.

I’ll be honest, I was putting it off.

Standing in the kitchen, injection in hand, having a quiet internal debate.

And then my daughter walked in.

“Daddy, what are you doing?”

I said, “I’ve just got to do an injection.”

She said, “Oh… okay.”

And in that moment, something clicked.

How can I spend my life encouraging people to face fears, do things they’re perhaps scared of, and build confidence…  

and then not do it myself?

And afterwards I thought:

sometimes we have to use that idea to our advantage.

Imagine the kids are watching.  

Imagine the grandkids are watching.

Not in a pressured way.

But in a quiet example way.

Because whether we like it or not, they notice.

They notice if we avoid things.

They notice if we give up easily.

They also notice when we show up, even when we’re unsure / don’t want to. 

And this applies just as much to health and fitness.

So many we work with know what they need to do:

• move more  

• get stronger  

• look after themselves  

• say yes to life a bit more  

What gets in the way isn’t knowledge.

It’s fear.

Fear of starting.

Fear of getting it wrong.

Fear of feeling uncomfortable.

Fear of failing 

Looming silly.

Even though you fail anyway from not trying…

And don’t get to learn valuable lessons from DOING. 

That’s what the 28 Day Kickstart is about.

But to create a supportive, friendly place where women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond can:

• get fitter  

• have fun  

• build confidence  

• and do more of the things they already know matter  

Sometimes the motivation isn’t about you.

Sometimes it’s about being the example.

And sometimes, just getting started is the bravest bit.
