OVERHEARD IN COSTA

Take two people. 

Jane and Irene for the sake of this. They go into a coffee shop every week to catch up.

Jane is struggling to lose weight. She eats healthy. Natural foods. Not much processed stuff. The occasional thing on a weekend but she’s OK during the week so she assumes it is OK.

We then have Irene. Who, unlike, Jane, is losing weight.

Over their coffee. Jane says how she hasn’t eaten anything today. 

Nothing. Oh, well, apart from the bag of almonds. Only a small one.

Irene on the other hand, explains how she’s had:

2 sausages, 2 rashes of bacon, 2 eggs, 2 tomatoes, mushrooms and some baked beans…

“Wow. where do you put it all. You must have a fast metabolism” Jane says to Irene.

But what if I told you that Jane, who has just eaten a 100g small bag of nuts, had actually eaten more calories?

You see, my point is that so-called ‘healthy’ foods and the big ‘snack’ industry out there with ‘healthy snacks’ has:

1) Resulted in us thinking that we have to snack on stuff in the snack isles..

2) Resulted in us thinking that because they are either bars or in small packets, that they are lower in calories and might help with weight loss.

It’s why I can’t stress enough how important it is to challenge your beliefs about certain so-called ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’ foods..

As ultimately, when it comes to losing body fat and getting healthy, the so called ‘healthy’ food may only be ‘healthy’ in the context of your overall calories.

Anyway, if you’re wondering what the recipe for the fry up was, here it’s:

* 2 grilled Chicken Heck sausages

* 2 grilled tomatoes

* 2 rashes of bacon (fat trimmed) fried in 1kcal spray

* 2 poached eggs

* 2 handfuls of mushrooms grilled

* And the Mediterranean parts…

* Tomato sauce with Basil (you could still use baked beans instead) and some lightly fried in 1kcal fry spray courgettes (exotic, I know…)

Giving you:

Calories: 427

Fat: 15g

Carbs: 24g

Protein:46g

Compared to a 100g bag of nuts giving you 579 calories…

And when you consider what’s going to keep you more full up?

Well, that says it all.

My point?

Sometimes, it’s just the simple swaps which can help kickstart this slimming down stuff 

Despite what they say about no carbs after 6pm…

Or slow metabolism.

RATHER.

Think small habits, compound effect..
