(osteoporosis) Strength training isn’t exciting… but this is why it matters

I wanted to share a couple of messages I received last week.

They really summed up why we do what we do.

That’s massive.

And it’s a good reminder that resistance training, as boring as it sometimes is (yep, I just called exercise boring , is incredibly important as we get older (or injured as I now know)

Strength work helps with:

– Bone density

– Joint support

– Balance

– Reducing fall risk

– Everyday stuff like stairs, getting up from the floor, carrying shopping

For years it was very much:

“Be careful.”

“Don’t lift.”

“Just swim to protect your joints.”

(Nothing wrong with swimming by the way.)

But what we now know is bones actually need load. It was frustrating back when I first started personal training 17 years ago. So many would be put off lifting weights for fear of getting bulky. When in fact, this can help you get that toned look.

Resistance training / strength training (whatever you want to call it) is really having it’s moment as we move towards a longevity focus.

This doesn’t mean smashing heavy weights.

It doesn’t mean pushing through pain.

It means sensible, progressive strength work — done regularly.

Which brings me to the second message.

And honestly… that’s the bit that makes everything work.

Because resistance training only helps your bones if you actually do it.

You are coached on how to do it safely and progressively. And maybe have fun in the process with like minded women supporting one another like we do in our Fruci Fit Kickstart (reply with “kickstart” for more info).

And most people don’t stop because they’re lazy.

They stop because it feels intimidating, lonely, confusing, or like they’re “doing it wrong”.

The whole point of the 28 Day Kickstart is to remove that.

You don’t need to be confident.

You don’t need to be fit.

You don’t need to love exercise.

^^ I mean, I’m so bored doing my rehab work now, but I do as I have connected it my why: my kids, sports, being able to do what I want to do

You just need a plan, support, and people who meet you where you’re at.

Strength training isn’t always exciting.

But the results are.

Stronger bones.

More confidence.

Feeling capable in your body again.

As always — your pace is the right pace.
