It’s never as bad as you think (learned this on my stairs)

So… yesterday felt like an actual day trip.

First time I’ve left the house in a week after doing my knee in playing football last Monday.

(Yes… can’t believe it’s been a week)

I got an a surprising call saying:

“can you come in this evening for a scan?”

I was like:

YES. Let’s go. Drop everything. Get me there. Speed this recovery up.

Pure excitement.

Then instantly… the excitement dropped.

Because it hit me:

“I’m going to have to do…

…the stairs.”

But here’s what actually happened:

– Going DOWN the stairs:

Super easy.

A lot easier than I expected.

– Going UP the stairs afterwards:

Bit more of a struggle I have to admit…

Resorted to the classic bum shuffle… backwards… like a very slow, confused crab.

But I still did it.

And the pain?

Nowhere near as bad as the dread I’d built up in my head.

And that’s the whole point.

We all do this:

• Trying a new session

• Booking onto something like Longevity Games, Hyrox or FruciRox

• Starting after a break

• Coming back after an injury

• Joining a new group

• Even pressing play on a home workout

That little voice goes:

“Ugh… can I be bothered?”

“What if I look silly?”

“What if I’m not fit enough?”

“I’ll leave it today and start next week…”

“It will be easier after Christmas”

But avoiding it only makes the feeling worse.

The thought of it is always worse than the actual doing.

Because once you take that step — even a tiny one:

A no floor workout

A home session

A walk

A stretch

A replay

A sing/dance/just-move kind of moment

I want you to then ask the question:

“Was it worth it?”

Almost always: yes.

And then momentum kicks in.

So if you’ve been putting something off —

starting, restarting, coming back in, booking a session, saying yes to yourself again —

use today as your “down the stairs” moment.

Take the step.

Do the thing.

Then ask yourself how you feel afterwards.

You can make a better decision next time…

and the feeling of dread will get smaller and smaller.

And you’ll surprise yourself with what you can actually do.

PS. Scan results Wednesday…

PPS. Luckily we have such an amazing Fruci Fit team of coaches that we are all go with sessions, which I am very thankful for.
