How to change for good?
“It’s not that the obstacle is in the way
It IS the way”
Just a reminder today that
We are driven – mainly – by the way we feel.
I’ll admit, sometimes I don’t ‘feel like’ writing these blogs everyday…
Or doing a workout…
But just this feeling of ‘not feeling like doing it’
Can impact my actions..
My results…
How I feel tomorrow…
And my identity.
Who I identify as…
Which governs who I become..
Why am I sharing this?
Well, there was a study that highlighted just how vital it is to see what you CAN achieve.
So many people just think ‘I need to lose some weight”
But fail to capitalise on the brain’s love of stories..
To visualise where you will be and how you will feel AFTER you do it.
Because that is when your brain REWARDS you…
It’s why we use benefit cards…
To overcome and put your attention on how you WANT to feel
Rather than how you don’t want to feel..
So here are two studies:
1- One study showed that people entering a weight loss journey that thought it would be ‘hard’ they outperformed people who thought it would be ‘easy’
2- One study asked people to think of themselves. A certain part of the brain lights up. Then, they ask people to think of a stranger. A different part of the brain lights up. Then, they ask them to think of the person they want to be in the future, and the same part of the brain lights up in around 80% of people that was lit up when they thought of the stranger. AKA they didn’t recognise themselves…
So what does this come down to?
Well, like every study shows when it comes to transform your health and fitness.
It’s not necessarily the carbs or fats..
It’s not whether you pound your joints jumping up and down in the gym
It’s actually the level of support and accountability
To get you to DO the things you know you need to do
Which results in a TRUE transformation
Rather than just short term highs and lows
On / off
All or nothing dieting..
Matt
