We just got back from Cornwall last week — and as usual, the kids were straight into the sea…often in their dresses, saying “we will only go in a bit”…
Only to get absolutely soaked…
Now, they love the water… but sometimes, they don’t quite go deep enough to really catch the waves if we go bodyboarding or surfing. They’ll stay knee-deep, splashing around, but never quite commit.
Which is fine, of course.
But their confidence really increased this time.
We ditched the boards. No bodyboards, no surfboards — just body surfing with a really great surf school called the Surf Sanctuary at Fistral beach.
Jumping into the waves as they came.
They started going deeper.
They got more confident.
(although they got pretty cold by the end of it….)
It reminded me so much of starting a fitness journey.
Too often we think:
– “I can’t do a full workout, so I won’t start.”
– “I can’t do this exercise because of my knee/hip/back… so what’s the point?”
But the truth is, you don’t need to start perfectly.
Sorry if I sound like a broken record.
It’s just I see this all of the time
One person decides to do nothing
The other person decides to focus on what they can do.
The results are wildly different..
You just need to start.
Take the first step, however small. Build your confidence, and the next step becomes easier.
After all, would say to our kids not to “ try something until the time is right”
So if you’re feeling stuck right now — maybe after summer, maybe due to injury, mobility issues, or just feeling “off track” — message me with ‘kickstart’ and I will get you the details.
Specifically for women 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+ and beyond who pretty much know what to do but need the plan and accountability to do it..
Matt
