Easter eggs have 20g of protein?

“Wait… so 2 Easter eggs have 20g of protein…
And so do 3 regular eggs??”

Sounds like a win for chocolate, right?

Until you check the small print
2 Easter egg shells = 1200 calories
3 actual eggs = 220 calories

Of course, I am saying this tongue in cheek..

And you know that chocolate is not a great source of protein..

BUT..

This is why nutrition can feel so blooming confusing sometimes.

You think you’re making a ‘better’ choice…
But the labels (and sneaky marketing) leave you second guessing EVERYTHING.

Here’s the truth
It’s never about one food.
It’s how it fits into your day.
And how it makes you feel after.

You don’t need to cut chocolate.
BUT…You just might not want to rely on it as your protein source

And this is why I want to give you a piece of advice.

When looking at ‘higher protein’ foods, check the nutritional information.

Is it really high in protein?

One way you can do this is by looking at the % of protein in a product.

For example, there are 4 calories in 1 gram of protein. So if something contains 20g of protein per 100 calories. That would mean 20g of protein x 4 (calories) = 80 calories of protein per 100 calories. You then know that you have a very high protein food.

Take my beloved Greek yoghurt (I generally go for the Total  / Fage brand)

Greek Yogurt

  • Full Fat (100g): 96 calories, 5g fat, 4g carbs (4g sugar), 9g protein
  • 0% Fat (100g): 57 calories, 0g fat, 4g carbs (4g sugar), 10g protein

One way to look at this:

if I get the FULL fat version, I have to spend 96 calories to get 9g of protein (and the same sugar).

If I get the 0% fat version, I have to spend 57 calories to get 10g of protein. Nearly half the calories and more protein…

Anyway..

I could go on..

But like I always say..

Education is key..

Knowing is key.

But knowing and not DOING is as good as not knowing..

Which is why we get you taking action in our 28 Day Kickstart
