Bone density of a 20 year old?

Saw this article the other day 

^^ well, one the ladies on our programme sent it over 

about a grandmother in her 70s winning a powerlifting competition.

Her name is Dr Catherine Walter (based in Oxford)..

She has the bone density of a 20 year old 👏👏

Here’s what she said:

“After the age of 40, your bones and muscles will deteriorate if you don’t do resistance training. The only thing that will prevent it – and it can be reversed – is resistance training.”

And it’s quite refreshing to hear such a contrasting, yet scientific approach being shown

When you compare it all to what you see in magazines and social media.

^^ you know, where they tell women to just run and eat nothing to lose weight and men to eat protein and lift weights…

But I get it, not everyone can just start powerlifting, right?

Joint issues, mobility issues, and health conditions, not to mention knowing how to do it safely and effectively

Oh and a little thing about HAVING FUN…

But the good news?

Resistance exercise doesn’t have to be powerlifting…

It can be using your body weight (many of the ladies start doing push ups against the wall, perfecting their technique before progressing)

Bands

Small weights…

It’s not always what you do but HOW you do it…

I see people say to me everyday that they can’t squat… 

But we can anyways focus on what you can do …

Speaking of ageing, I couldn’t end this without talking about the role of nutrition here.
