I got sent this the other week and I wanted to share. It’s a pretty amazing reminder of why what we do with exercise and movement is so important…
After five years, 80% of people who followed a structured exercise programme remained cancer-free, compared to 74% of those who just received health advice booklets.
By eight years, survival rates were higher in the exercise group too – 90% were still alive, compared to 83% in the group that just had the leaflets.
And the best part?
It wasn’t “all or nothing.”
It wasn’t hours in the gym.
It was things like:
– Brisk walking for around 40 minutes
– Cycling
-Swimming
– Circuit classes with a mixture of resistance exercise and cardio
What really stuck with me is what the lead researcher, Professor Vicky Coyle, said:
“We supported people to reach their weekly exercise target in a way that worked for them.”
