“7 weeks today off the medication and stable BP”

That was the message that came through.

Alongside a blood pressure reading of 114/77.

Seven weeks after stopping medication, their blood pressure was still stable.

A lovely personal update.

And a reminder that progress can happen away from the scales.

Now, we do not have a secret for blood pressure.

Age, genetics, stress and lifestyle can all play a part.

Regular exercise, food changes and weight loss where appropriate can help.

But some people still need medication, even when doing all of those things.

Please only reduce or stop blood pressure medication on your prescriber’s advice, with ongoing monitoring.

And if you feel dizzy, get it checked rather than assuming your fitness is improving or changing your tablets yourself.

The DASH eating plan is one useful approach.

More vegetables, fruit, fibre, beans and dairy, with less salt.

Mediterranean-style meals are another way of getting more vegetables, beans, fibre and fish into your week.

^^ Sadly, “Mediterranean” does not just mean sitting in the sunshine with a glass of wine.

Want more information about DASH? Message “DASH” and I’ll send it over.

But the thing I keep coming back to is consistency.

You might already know a lot of the basics.

The difficult bit is doing them when work runs late, you are tired, or one busy day turns into “I’ll start again next week”.

Having a plan.

Someone checking in.

Sessions in the diary.

Making a few better choices more often.

That is where we can help with your food, fitness and focus.
