I used to hate public speaking.
Not just
“Oh, I’m a bit nervous.”
I mean red in the face.
Shaking.
Mind going blank.
Trying to avoid it if I could.
When I was at Loughborough University, I had to deliver a presentation for my postgraduate work.
So nervous.
I remember standing there thinking:
“Why is my face so red?”
“Why can’t I remember anything?”
“I wish the floor would swallow me up?”
^^ dramatic, but also accurate
And I think that feeling is something a lot of people get before starting something new.
Not always public speaking.
Sometimes it’s walking into a fitness session.
Especially if you haven’t exercised for a while.
Or you don’t know anyone.
Or you’re worried everyone else will be fitter.
Or you’re thinking:
“Will I look silly?”
“Will I be able to keep up?”
“What if I can’t do something?”
“What if everyone else knows what they’re doing?”
“What if I’m the most unfit person there?”
that’s why the environment matters so much.
Because the right environment can make you feel safe enough to start.
At Fruci Fit, it’s not a competition.
It’s not about who can lift the most.
Or move the fastest.
Or do the hardest version.
It’s women working at their own pace.
Supporting each other.
Laughing together.
Getting fitter together.
Building confidence together.
And realising they can do more than they thought. The coaches will always adapt for you.
That’s the beauty of resistance exercise.
It’s truly adaptable.
Yes, we have a plan for each session.
But it’s not a scripted gym class where everyone has to do the same thing, at the same speed, at the same level, while you try not to look like you’re falling apart in the corner.
We adapt the plan to you.
Even in a group. its personal training
If you’re new, we adapt.
If you’ve got aches, we adapt.
If you’re nervous about floor work, we adapt.
If something doesn’t feel right, we adapt.
If you need a gentler option, we adapt.
If you’re stronger than you think and need a little push, we adapt that too.
Your pace is the right pace.
And that’s something I wish I understood more when I was younger.
Because being nervous doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.
It just means it matters.
Confidence doesn’t come first.
Practice does.
Support does.
Showing up does.
And usually, once you’ve done the thing once, it feels a little less scary the next time.
That’s what we want Fruci Fit to feel like.
A place where you can start where you are.
Move at your pace.
Have a laugh.
Be coached properly.
Feel supported.
And leave feeling better than when you walked in.

PS. If you’re nervous, you’re probably not the only one. Most people just get better at hiding it. I was just bright red, shaking and making it very obvious.
