I changed my mind on something relatively recently..
Fitness events.
For a long time I kept saying:
“I’m not ready.”
“I need more time.”
“I should be fitter first.”
Then I signed up anyway — Rat Race coastal marathon — with about four weeks’ notice.
And here’s the bit that surprised me most.
It wasn’t the outcome that mattered.
It wasn’t the event itself.
It was what happened after I committed.
Training suddenly had purpose.
Sessions weren’t just something I should do — they were something I was doing for a reason.
I showed up more.
I stopped overthinking.
Confidence followed the action, not the other way round.
And I see this exact pattern all the time.
Most people already know what they need to do:
move more, get stronger, look after themselves.
What’s missing isn’t knowledge — it’s something that helps them show up consistently.
That consistency is what leads to the real benefits:
• everyday tasks feeling easier
• getting up and down from the floor with more confidence
• feeling steadier and stronger
• giving bones the stimulus they need
• feeling more capable in your own body
