I had a question this week that I hear quite often:
“Should I avoid eating late at night? Doesn’t it mean I’ll store more fat?”
Here’s the truth:
It’s not when you eat that matters most.
It’s what and how much you eat over the day, the week, the month.
Calories in vs calories out will still decide weight change over time…
So why does late-night eating get such a bad reputation?
Because let’s be honest… nobody sits down in front of the TV at 9pm and thinks:
“I fancy some celery sticks and peppers.”
Or
“I fancy some mackerel” << OK, maybe just me…
It’s usually more like:
Chocolate
Biscuits
Wine
And when we’re tired, stressed, or low on willpower, those choices add up.
That’s why some people who – say – create a rule to stop eating after 7pm notice the results – not because of the time, but because they’ve cut out the unplanned snacking.
If eating late works for you and doesn’t impact your sleep, it’s not a problem.
If you find it does make you snack more or wake in the night, or you make worse choices? Try shifting your main meal earlier, or simply focus on planning a higher-protein dinner so you feel satisfied.
The good news?
You don’t need to give up eating after a certain time to get results.
