So the other day we were eating out as a family
One-year-old sitting next to me in his high chair.
I turn my head, look once…
Look again…
And think, “Oh shhh…” you know what I’m about to say but have to keep my language clean…
At first, I was confused.
We haven’t eaten anything that looks like that… maybe bolognese?
Then I realised what it was …it was an explosive nappy situation.
We’re talking up-the-back, panic-mode….
Not exactly the kind of ‘fine dining’ experience we’d planned (although with 3 kids, I’m not sure that is ever possible haha)
We grab every wipe going..
Mrs Fruci goes to get some emergency wipes and a towel…whilst I keep him still. As if he moves this is going to go everywhere….
Fast forward, he comes back to dinner, wrapped in a towel with a fresh nappy…
But the funny part?
Four days later, we were laughing about it.
Something that in the moment felt like a disaster… became one of those stories we’ll probably never forget.
It reminded me a lot of what happens on a fitness journey:
- Sometimes things go wrong (you miss workouts, you overeat, life throws you off track).
- In the moment it feels frustrating, maybe even hopeless.
- But given time, you look back and realise it was just a blip… and maybe even learned something from it. Maybe you didn’t enjoy it as much as you thought you would? Maybe you were tired and stressed and needed more coping mechanisms?
The lesson?
Obstacles and “messy moments” are inevitable…but they will pass.
You can choose to dwell on them, or clean up, learn, and move forward.
Matt
PS. cheap nappies options often cost you more in the long run…
