Should I go heavier or lighter?

So, I had this question the other day:

“Matt, should I lift heavier weights and do fewer reps, or lighter weights and do more reps? I’m trying to tone up the back of my arms”

Love this question.

And the answer?

– It’s actually less about heavy vs. light.

– It’s more about doing a bit more over time.

Whether that’s:

– A few more reps

– A tiny bit more weight

– Slowing it down to really feel the muscle working (especially on the way down)

(especially handy if you’ve got arthritis or any niggles – slowing it down can actually work better without hammering the joints).

An important part is that your total volume increases (weight you lift x reps you do x sets you do)

The most important thing?
