We were in Cornwall last week.
Bit of crab fishing
Paddleboarding with the kids.
We even had a seal pop up near us…
Can’t pretend I wasn’t a bit scared
It was also a good test for my knee after the ACL and meniscus surgery.
Bodyboarding was fine.
I’m not quite ready to say I’m surfing again yet…
But it felt good to be able to do more with the kids.
Cornwall is quite a special place for us.
It’s where I met Mrs Fruci and we still go every year..
And although it’s about memories, having fun, friends and family…
Rather than a bootcamp…
There are 3 simple things I tend to do that help me feel good without taking over the holiday.
1. Walk as much as possible.
Explore somewhere on foot.
Walk to the beach.
Carry a tired toddler back if needed…
^^ that DEFINITELY happened more than intended
2. Have a proper breakfast and evening meal.
It allows me the calories to spend and enjoy the food I want..
I’ll often skip lunch.
Maybe fruit and nuts.
A latte.
3. Make the choice YOU actually want.
Not the choice you think you should make.
And not the choice you make just because everybody else is having it.
If you want the dessert, enjoy it.
If you don’t, you don’t have to eat it to keep somebody else company.
^^ although research shows this is hard to do and we do tend to follow others
A holiday is there to be enjoyed.
You don’t need to be perfect.
And you don’t need to come home feeling like you’ve undone everything either.
Walk when you can.
Give the day a little structure.
And make the choices you actually want.
Simple.
Not perfect.
But hopefully a small step away from all or nothing and towards all or something.
Matt
