That sounds suspiciously like a test.
Do I pass?
Do I fail?
Is someone going to appear with a clipboard, a whistle, stopwatch and a red pen…
No.
It is not like PE at school, don’t worry
A benchmark session simply gives us a starting point and a way to see progress that can be easy to miss day to day.
We can look at things such as strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility or mobility.
For example, you might record how many metres you cover on the skier machine in a set time.
Then a few months later, you repeat it.
You may feel as though nothing has changed because progress often happens gradually.
Then you look back at your June score and realise you have gone further, lifted more, moved better or recovered faster.
That is a brilliant feeling.
It also helps us as coaches.
With different sessions, studios and coaches, having something recorded gives us useful information.
We can see where you are progressing and where we may need to help you a little more.
It is not about comparing yourself with the person next to you.
It is you versus you.
And if you are just starting, your first benchmark is simply where you are today.
No judgement.
Just information we can use to help you progress.
Our next £10 7 Day Trial starts one week today, on Monday 5th October.
