That first sip of coffee in my kitchen every morning just hits differently. I almost feel the energy instantly.

Which brings me to a really good question last week about magnesium supplements.

Someone asked…

“If I take a magnesium supplement that has different types in it… do they cancel each other out?”

For example:

Magnesium glycinate — often taken to help with relaxation and sleep

Magnesium malate — often linked to energy production

Magnesium citrate — often used for digestion, cramps, bowel movements

So naturally the question was…

“If I’m taking a 3 in 1 (with all 3 types above) to help me sleep, but it’s also got something in there for energy… am I cancelling it out?”

Great question.

Short answer… probably not.

They all play slightly different roles in the body, and the overall effect isn’t as simple as “one switches you off, one switches you on.”

The body doesn’t really work like that.

Magnesium isn’t a stimulant like caffeine.

So the most useful question is often:

Do you feel better taking it?

Are you sleeping better?

Do you notice a difference?

If yes… great. Keep it in.

If not…

You could maybe try glycinate on its own but you could say that citrate can also help with a weak bladder and that could wake you up in the night for a wee and disrupt your sleep?

^^ and no, me taking magnesium doesn’t stop my little one getting up

But here’s the bit I always come back to…

This is the small stuff.

And it’s very easy to spend a lot of time thinking about the small stuff.

Which magnesium?

Which collagen?

Which supplement is “best”?

When actually…

The big results come from the boring basics.

Eating enough protein

Moving regularly

Doing some form of resistance training

Sleeping well

Being consistent

Because you can have the “perfect” supplement routine…

…but if you’re not doing the things you know you need to do, it won’t make much difference.

It’s a bit like vitamin D this time of year.

Most people have it…

Not everyone takes it.

^^ did I get you, there?

Knowing vs doing.

And that’s where most people get stuck.

Not because they don’t know what to do…

But because life gets busy, motivation drops, and it’s hard to stay consistent on your own.

That’s why we keep things simple at Fruci Fit.

Just helping you actually do the things you already know matter.

Consistently.

If that’s the bit you’re struggling with — actually doing it consistently — just message or comment with “Kickstart” and I’ll point you in the right direction
