running to get in great shape?
“Do I have to run to lose weight?”
^^this comes up a lot
Maybe because of the old women’s magazines hammering the message of eat nothing and burn loads of calories
Or maybe because that’s what you did before…
20 years ago 🤔
But now you’re thinking you’ll only lose the weight if you do the running which “gets my heart rate up”
And sure, it’ll burn calories..
Which then might help you lose more body fat and weight providing you’re in a calorie deficit..
But consider this:
Do you enjoy it?
Does it impact your joints?
If yes to any of the above?
Is this the most effective way to get in shape and get fit?
Well, consider me.
I don’t really enjoy running…
And it takes a lot for me to motivate myself to do it.
Maybe I even need a reward or a treat to do it 🍫 🤔
And after I’ve done it?
I perceive that exercise as hard work.
And just like some of the research can show, some people have a tendency to then overcompensate with their food.
“I did a run so I can eat xyz”
Compare this to lower impact, muscle strengthening exercise or walking?
And I don’t compensate…
But for others?
Going for the run is great headspace, helps with hunger, and doesn’t impact their joints..
So for them?
It’s a no brainer..
My point here?
There’s no one right way.
And I’ll be honest, the more time you spend
Looking for “the right way”
The further you’ll be away from where you want to be.
Where would you be 5 years from now if birthing changes because you’re still looking for the “perfect” way?
How would your life be different one year from now if you just got started today, no matter how small?
How would you feel? Physically? Mentally?
And sure…
That voice in your head will keep saying:
“It’s not the right time”
“Too many social events”
“I love baking too much”
“I enjoy my weekends too much”
And all of these are probably half true…
But just because you have social events
Does it mean you should put off the whole thing
Of getting fitter, more toned, in better shape, healthier and being the best version of yourself?
Something that helps me?
What advice would I give to me kids?
^^ and am I living that?
Matt
