“If I burn fewer calories on my watch… does that mean I’m getting fitter?”
I get asked this a lot.
And it’s a great question — because we’ve been trained to think more calories burned = better workout…
But that’s not always the case.
Let me explain
Let’s say I go for the same jog every morning. Same pace, same route.
At first, my watch says:
- 300 calories burned!
A few weeks later?
- Only 200 calories.
Now, before I throw the watch across the road…
Could this actually mean I’m getting fitter?
Potentially…yes.
Why?
Because my body doesn’t have to work as hard anymore. My heart rate isn’t sky high. I’ve adapted. My stroke volume (the amount of blood pumped out the left ventricle of the heart with each beat) has improved. I’ve become more efficient.
So yes… sometimes, burning fewer calories = maybe a fitter, stronger you.
But with all of this, there are many other variables that impact that, from the type of workout, to the weather/ heat, hydration, rest…I could go on.
That’s why..
I prefer to focus on the the truth most don’t talk about:
– Your fitness watch doesn’t know how strong your legs feel
– It doesn’t know you’ve finally got up from the floor without using your hands
– Or that you’ve got more energy playing with the grandkids
That’s real progress.
And it’s what we’re helping women 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+ (and beyond) achieve..
All starting with our 28 Day Kickstart.
It’s not about burning the most calories…
It’s about getting strong. Feeling good. And finally doing the things you already know you need to do..CONSISTENTLY — because you’ve got the plan and support to stick to it.
And let’s be honest…
You probably don’t need more info.
You need the right structure, support, and accountability to finally put it into action.
If that’s what you need?
Message or comment with “KICKSTART” and I’ll send over the details.
Matt
