The week before I was telling my daughter:
“Get higher”
“If it’s not scary it will be boring”
It’s easier said than done, right?
So then of course my other daughter wanted to try.
I went to book and the family ticket with me included wasn’t much more.
So I thought, I have to practice what I preach…
And go.
And it was only when I started climbing up that I thought”
“Oh this does feel quite high”
So I am there climbing next my daughter
And she turns to me and says
To my relief…
“I’m going to jump down now”
Phew..
It was getting high..
And you know what, I just needed to get comfortable with jumping down..
As soon as I did that, I was ok.
And I say OK, as it was still only OK…haha
But I thought, I can’t not hit the buzzers at the top
As I keep saying to them
‘You are strapped in’
‘You’re safe’
‘It’s good to go out of your comfort zone’
‘If it wasn’t scary, you would say it’s boring’
So why am I sharing this?
Well, accountability HELPs.
A lot..
Most people know what to do it.
But the doing is hard.
And we know from research that support and accountability is key
To doing the things you know you need to do for long enough to get the results you want.
And telling my kids to do something I wasn’t willing to do was enough to make me do it
^^ read that again
So how can you get more accountability to do the things you know you need to do?
Well, here are 6 ways:
1) Tell a friend / family member what you’re going to do
2) Commit to never break a promise to yourself
3) Share on social media what you’re going to do
4) Get a coach
5) Get an accountability buddy
6) Surround yourself with like minded people
Ultimately though, it comes down to you doing what you said you would do
