Carrots vs Cake? What the GI diet doesn’t tell you…

Should I follow the low GI diet to lose weight?

It’s a question I hear a lot — especially from women who’ve been told it’s the way to manage weight or control blood sugar…and hormones…

But here’s the truth:

The GI (glycemic index) just tells you how fast a food (carbs) spike your blood sugar.

That’s it.

Sure, it can be helpful if you have diabetes or take certain medications that impact your pancreas / insulin secretion..

…but for most people, it ends up just being confusing.

Like this one:

Cooked carrots can have a GI of up to 85 in some cases, which is higher than cake (around 60-70)….

Does that mean cake is the better option? Of course not.

The fat in cake lowers the sugar spike — but it also adds loads of calories.

Carrots? You’d have to eat a bucketload of them to match the calories in cake.

And if you eat the carrots raw?

They have a lower GI…

And by that point, you’d be too full to want anything else anyway.

So what’s the point?

  • You don’t need to obsess over sugar spikes or GI charts.
  • You don’t need to cut out all the foods you enjoy OR be worried about snacking on carrots…
  • And you definitely don’t need to be “perfect”

What does help?

Learning how to balance your meals so they keep you full (protein is key for this)

Making simple swaps that actually work for your lifestyle (add lots of veggies to your meals)

Staying consistent (even when life is hectic)

Getting support from coaches who understand what it’s like to start (even if you feel like you are a ‘lost cause’ < don’t worry, lots of people say this to us)

And that’s exactly what we do inside the 28-Day Kickstart at Fruci Fit.

It’s designed specifically for women 40+ who want to get fit, tone up, and make everyday tasks easier — without having fad diets…

Because it’s not about being perfect.

It’s about making it doable — and finally feeling like you CAN do this.

It’s not easy. But neither is deciding to do nothing. There are consequences either way.
