About my knee surgery

So last week I had knee surgery. This came from playing football November 17th. All happened in a split second.

Pain…

The reality of not ever having the same knee..

Long road ahead

If you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know I’ve been big on just having “no regrets”. Control what I can.

So going into surgery I’ve literally done everything to the letter.

The outcome?

Overall — very positive.

Going into surgery, the plan was fairly clear on paper:

IT band graft, lateral meniscus not repairable, ACL ruptured on the MRI.

What actually happened was a bit different.

They didn’t end up using a graft.

And the ACL..

Despite being described as ruptured on the MRI, it’s attached.

It’s longer and stretchier than a “normal” ACL, but it is there.

Which means instead of automatically replacing it, we now wait 8–10 weeks to see how it behaves.

It’s now 50/50 if I’ll need more surgery.

Right now, it’s a case of rehab, patience, and seeing how things respond.

And I can’t help but wonder how much prehab played a role in this.

Who knows.

But one thing I do know is that I wanted to go into surgery with no regrets.

Knowing I’d done what I could beforehand.

Strengthened what I could.

Prepared as well as possible.

Sometimes things don’t go exactly to plan.

But doing the groundwork gives you the best possible starting point — whatever the outcome.

And also made me feel better when the surgeon told me how complicated this was pre surgery…

I’ll keep you posted as things progress.

Thanks for all the messages and support, it really does mean a lot.

Matt
