Is it really hunger… or something else?

One of the biggest challenges I hear?

Cravings. Emotional eating. Mindless snacking.

It can feel like you’re doing so well — then boom — it’s 9pm and the biscuits are calling…

And here’s the thing most people miss:

It’s not always about food.

Or even fitness.

It’s the focus bit that matters most.

The stuff that protects your energy.

Creates energy.

Makes you feel good.

Whether that’s:

  • Having a bath
  • Singing, dancing, reading
  • Getting outside
  • Going to bed a bit earlier…by 9pm if you are like me…
  • Or yes, even… taking a deep breath

Research shows even a few minutes of this can light up the part of your brain that helps you make better choices. (And turn down the part that is focussed more on instant gratification, and says, “Ooh go on, just one more biscuit…”)

So here’s a little challenge for today:

– Each time you walk through a door, take a deep breath

– Ask: “Am I really hungry? Or just stressed/tired/bored?”

– If a piece of fruit would do — you’re probably physically hungry. If you feel you want a certain food, could this be psychological hunger?
