“that won’t work for me”
Was the response I got from one of the ladies the other day when we were arranging the times for her session this week.
Why wouldn’t it work?
Because – in her words- half term has to be like a ‘military operation’ or could end up pretty hectic..
Which I get with 3 kids myself…
In fact, before I worked in Public Health and NHS in Diabetes, I did a bit of work on a Children’s Weight Management programme, and half terms definitely presented a challenge.
On that note, I have put together a mini half term survival guide. If you would like that? Message or comment with ‘half term’ and I will send it over for you.
So, an itinerary was drawn up each day to make sure the kids were in check, work got done, and it wasn’t too overwhelming
My point?
Imagine if you just did this each day with:
1) Your food – Have you planned your meals or are you heading into the supermarket on the way home from work to pick something up when you’re tired and hungry (or hAngry as Mrs Fruci calls me)?
Even if you don’t plan your meals. I spoke yesterday about how I cooked up leftovers for the roast dinner so that today onwards? I at least have some ‘go to’ protein and veggies for omelettes, picking, stir fry and jacket potatoes..
Could you identify the trigger time (maybe after dinner on an evening) when you find yourself in the snack cupboard and make a plan for then? Get a ‘high’ / some comfort from: ringing a friend? Doing some exercise? Going for a walk? Watching some comedy? Reading a book? Singing? Dancing?
2) Your Fitness – Have you put 5 minutes aside for you to focus on getting stronger and fitter? It doesn’t have to be perfect.
3) Your Focus – Try 5 minutes on the app, Headspace? Go for a walk? Listen to some music? See if you slow down enough to become aware of the things you do which are so ‘unconscious’ ? See if you can acknowledge them? See how you feel?
Take care of these 3? And you too could have a less hectic health and fitness journey which isn’t as overwhelming or scary as they say it has to be.
