I cook from scratch but I’m still not losing weight 😮
I hear this a lot, but remember when it comes to fat loss, it’s a calorie deficit that counts.
When you’re on the go or a bit busy, it can be those picky bits, and those bites and the licks and tastes that add up.
It could also be portion control 😮
And often I hear people are so surprised with portions when they use a ready meal or something like Hello Fresh…
I shared a simple stir fry the other day that I picked up and cooked from scratch in 20 mins or so, when in a hurry.

a quick 15 minute “haven’t planned but starving, haven’t got much time and need some veggies and protein” meal 🥘
Step 1: pick up any lean meat that’s reduced (beef in this case)
Step 2: the biggest stir fry pack with bean sprouts (good for volume and filling)
Step 3: whack it all in pan
Step 4: add some soy sauce and peanut butter and some chilli flakes if you like it hot 😜
Loads of protein and fibre 👌 room for some carbs later if I fancy it ..
When you stack up your protein and fibre, it makes it “feel like” you’re “eating more and losing fat” as so many say.
But sometimes, I don’t always cook from scratch (yep, guilty as charged)
1 thing I’ve noticed is there are some good on the go, simple meals that might not be perfect, sure, it allows me to stick to my nutrition goals and most importantly do that whilst fitting it to my lifestyle (and the family and kids).
I would love to cook from scratch all of the time, but sometimes I have to value convenience and time. But that doesn’t mean I have to give up on my nutrition targets…

For example, this kedgeree was so good, £2 a portion (added some more frozen peas), quick and easy and decent protein.
So rather than thinking “I can’t cook from fresh, I’ll just pick” (and eat 1000 calories)
Always think: what’s the alternative?
Just because you can’t be perfect, what could you do instead?
This Kedgeree? 387 calories, 18 g of protein, add some more peas and other veg and it was a really good and quick and simple meal.
What’s your go to for a quick and simple meal ?
Matt
