My 7 year old did this to me…

“Daddy, shut the fridge door

And you’ve left the cupboard door open again.

I’m going to make you a chart, Daddy, with crosses and ticks. 

If you have more crosses than ticks,

Then I will take your phone for 2 hours”

Wow,

Was that a kick up the bum for me

Not just leaving cupboard doors and fridge doors open

But also the fact she is after my phone..

Thing is, this is the type of accountability

That REALLY hits home.

(Especially when it is from your 7 year old daughter haha)

But it is also the type of accountability that we often run away from.

We say

“I just need some accountability”

But then run away from it when it is there.

So here are 4 things to help you:

  1. When setting something to be accountable to, start REALLY small. So small that you are 100% sure you can do it. For example, in week 1 I always talk about getting familiar with your Fitness habit. Showing up to your Fruci Fit sessions. Start there. Don’t even worry about what the perfect workout would be right now (the best one is the one you do)
  2. If you want something more exciting, that scares you a bit? Go for it. But don’t then say ‘goal setting does not work’. It is actually critical
  3. Remind yourself of the consequences of NOT doing it. What happens if nothing changes right now? 
  4. Find what you value and put your attention on the benefits of doing the things you say you would. For example, I will shut the cupboard doors so my daughter clearly sees I can go from not doing something to doing it, and I will make a point of it. Even if you can’t do something now? You can CHOOSE to act differently. 

Anyway, I’m off to double check I have shut the cupboard and fridge doors.
